Historical pilot boat from 1897 – A survivor of Norwegian maritime culture 

Colin Archer type pilot boat built in 1897 in Risør in excellent condition.

Built oak on oak with pine deck. Fully renovated and new rigged as ketch in the 1980’s.

First owner was Edward Edwardson from Kleven in Mandal in the period 1897-1926. It was the first pilot and rescue boat on the Norwegian west coast. Mostly the full history is known and documented.

In the years 1977-1980 the boat was restored in the shipyard of H.Gregersen, Risør. A new skin, a new deck, a new cabin and a new rigging system (draft July Jeppe Nielsen, 1977) have been installed. Thereby additional new frames were drawn alongside the old ones. A Mercedes engine OM 352 with 6.0 liter Cylinder capacity and 130 HP power was installed.

The boat is very solidly built exclusively in the traditional manner. New sails (6 sails – jib, foresail, main, top, spanker and balloon sail (75m2)) were made according to plans of Jeppe Nielsen in July in 1996 which are still in good condition and will last another couple of years.

Many new parts have been built in. Two independent GPS/DSC radios with AIS receiver (one fix, one mobile), new Epirb buoy, life raft for 6 people, lot of accessories.

New handmade drive shaft, new propeller mounted in 2014 (10k€ invest), full engine maintenance (all filters, oil changed, ventils adjusted) after 2016 season. Antifouling new 2016, deck and hull new painted.

5 berths (double bed in the front cabin, 3 pilot berths in the saloon) plus 2 sleeping places on the sofas, we have sailed with 6 to 7 people this whole summer and this works very well. Ethyl alcohol stove, compressor refrigerator, wooden fired oven.
